AgriSA, ANC meeting ‘went well'

AgriSA, the country's largest representative body of commercial farmers, says its meeting with the African National Congress (ANC) “went really well”.

The two organisations met on Tuesday morning, after AgriSA raised concerns with the governing party's stance on the expropriation of land without compensation.

 

The ANC recently announced that it is open to amending the constitution to allow for expropriation of land without compensation

 

The meeting was initiated by Deputy President David Mabuza.

 

"We had a discussion about the future of agriculture and the agricultural economy in South Africa. And I think they have extended the hand of cooperation with organised agriculture and  Think it's an important symbolic move."

 

"We agreed to formulate tasks that we will work together and sustainably work on growing the agricultural economy on transforming the sector in generating more jobs and ensure that our GDP growth remains in line, " says Agri SA Executive Director Omri van Zyl.

 

President Cyril Ramaphosa has also invited Agri SA to an urgent meeting in to Cape Town to discuss the country's agricultural economy.
