Leaders of the #AlexShutdown movement laid criminal charges against Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba at the Alexandra police station on Wednesday.
According to convenor Sandile Mavundla, the charges relate to the contravention of a court order.
"The rule that was for a good cause that was laid by judge regarding the court order of the portion that were invaded where the mayor did not even oppose the court order but now he just wants to build illegal structures. We want to know on which continent, where he will build illegal structure while there is a court order?”
Several members of the Alexandra community marched to the City of Johannesburg regional offices in Sandton earlier on Wednesday to hand over another memorandum with their demands, including a call for action against the mushrooming of illegal structures.
