It’s all systems go for the start of the matric examinations in Gauteng on Wednesday.


Gauteng MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi briefed the media on Sunday about the department’s state of readiness ahead of the start of the exams.


Lesufi says the department is dedicated to ensuring a smooth process.


“The Gauteng province will commence with the year-end National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations. We are starting with Computer Application Technology and practicals examination on the 16th of October,” says Lesufi.


“Examinations are intended to be concluded on the 29th of November 2019.”

A number of security measures have been put in place in problematic areas.


Pupils in Tshwane were also asked to sign a pledge not to disrupt exams.


"Last week Friday myself and students from Tshwane, we signed a pledge that urges all our students to ensure that they don't do or bring things that will compromise the exams," he adds.


Lesufi says the department has earmarked January 3 for the release of the exam results.
