The students bought the fatcakes from a local vendor on their way to school on Thursday morning and subsequently complained of stomach cramps when they arrived.

Department spokesperson Steve Mabona says the school issued an emergency service alert.

"Learners were treated at Tlamelong Clinic (42 learners), Boekenhout Clinic (34 learners) and Sedilega Clinic (18 learners). The additional 3 learners were taken by their parents to Medical Centres of choice."

"Fortunately all learners have since been discharged. It is important to note that no learner suffered from vomiting and diarrhea," adds Mabona.

Mabona says samples of the fatcakes have been taken to a lab for testing.

"The Psycho Social Team was dispatched to the school for necessary support. Furthermore, fatcake samples were taken by Environmental Health Practitioners for lab analysis."
