Amcu president Joseph Mathunjwa joined hundreds of mineworkers marching in Illovo, Johannesburg, as they prepared to hand over a memorandum to Impala Platinum at its head office on Thursday.

Mathunjwa and lawyer Dali Mpofu joined the marchers shortly before they arrived at Impala's premises.

Mpofu is participating in the Farlam Commission of Inquiry, representing Lonmin mineworkers wounded during wage-related unrest at Marikana, near Rustenburg, North West, in August 2012.

As the marchers arrived at Impala, several of the mining giant's employees drove out of the premises in haste. Others hurried out of the building on foot, carrying their bags.

Police officers monitored the situation. They formed a line in front of the building. The officers were armed with handguns in holsters.
