This comes despite the sudden adjournment of the national executive committee meeting that was scheduled to discuss the matter on Friday.

Ramaphosa was a no-show at what was expected to be a marathon meeting to debate whether he should step aside.

The president is under immense pressure after the panel found he may have violated the constitution and broken some laws during and after the burglary at his private farm in 2020.

The ANC’s acting secretary-general Paul Mashatile told reporters the NEC has opted to have the report processed by its top leadership and the national working committee.

He denied the meeting was held prematurely, and that the delay flies in the face of anxious South Africans who are seeking certainty on the president’s fate.

"We decided that the NEC of the ANC should also be given the report of parliament that comes from the panel," said Mashatile.

"However, the NEC, in its wisdom, today they decided that they would like that report to be given to the officials of the ANC first. The officials must process it, and convene an NWC (national working committee).

"Once the NWC is done, we will convene the NEC and we should do this before the 6th of December. So between tomorrow and Sunday, we will do all that. "

MPs in the National Assembly are expected to debate and vote on the report on Tuesday.
