ANC announces mayoral candidates

The African National Congress (ANC) announced its mayoral candidates on Sunday following an extended special meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee ( NEC).
In a statement released on Sunday evening, the ANC says it adopted a comprehensive selection process as part of its criteria in nominating mayoral candidates across the country.
The ANC says 600 mayoral candidates were interviewed according to the ruling party.
“The panel considered the candidate's qualifications and relevant experience as well as their understanding of social and economic drivers of local government,” reads the statement.
For Johannesburg, Mpho Moerane will contest, for Nelson Mandela Bah Eugene Johnson, for Ekurhulenj Mzwandile Masina, eThekwini Mxolisi Kaunda, Mangaung Mxolisi Siyonzana and Buffalo City Xola Phakati will contest.
In the first statement, Frans Boshielo was named as a candidate in Tshwane, however; a second statement released by the ANC left the Tshwane mayor candidacy open.
The party has set up an engagement committee that will ventilate issues in hung municipalities.
The ANC adds its coalition discussions have concluded, as the Tuesday deadline for municipalities to elect mayors and local government executives.
