ANC asks that urgent attention be given to KZN mayor 'poisoning' suspicions

The African National Congress (ANC) has urged its structures, both in the party and in government, to investigate suspicions that the acting eThekwini mayor, Fawzia Peer, might have been the victim of attempted poisoning, 

On Thursday, Peer was escorted from council chambers after drinking water that allegedly smelt of paraffin. 

The eThekwini has said that Peer went to the doctor as a precautionary measure and initially would not confirm that she was poisoned.

However, on Friday they referred to it on Twitter as "the poisoning incident," saying she was back at work and doing well. 

ANC spokesperson, Pule Mabe on Friday said the party's leadership was being urged to treat the matter as urgent. 

Mabe welcomed the speed at which the matter was begin investigated, but said the unity of the ACN is of critical importance. 

"If there are things that themselves raise suspicions such suspicions much be attended to, addressed, and ensure that we find a solution," said Mabe.
