A ANC councillor has been shot and killed at a fuel station in Mkondo (previously known as Piet Retief) in Mpumalanga.
Forty-one-year-old Muzi Manyathi was shot multiple times on Friday evening.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli says the suspects were tailing Manyathi at the petrol station.
“According to the report, a Mercedes-Benz occupied by two people was seen moving from one fuel pump to another without refilling, meanwhile Manyathi reportedly bought something from the kiosk,” he says.

“It is said that one male occupant came out of the said vehicle, armed with a firearm, and allegedly shot the victim multiple times at close range. The suspects then fled the scene using the said vehicle.”
When law enforcement and paramedics arrived on the scene Manyathi was certified dead on the scene.
“A murder case is being investigated,” adds Mdhluli.
The Mercedes-Benz that the suspects were travelling in was later found abandoned near a dam.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the number plates on the vehicle seem not to be authentic and it was discovered that the said car was reported stolen in April this year in Brakpan, Gauteng," says Mdhluli.
No arrests have been made.
