ANC happy with axing of IEC official who leaked candidate lists
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The ANC has called on law enforcement agencies to act swiftly against the IEC official who leaked ANC and MK Party candidate lists.
The two lists started circulating on social media hours after the parties submitted them to the IEC before Friday’s deadline.
The IEC says its preliminary investigation shows that the documents were generated from a workstation in its headquarters before they were deleted.
The official has since been fired.
ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri says the party still have confidence in the IEC.
"We are pleased to learn that this was not a result of a security breach but rather the neglectful conduct of an individual."
"The conduct of the implicated official has jeopardised the personal details of all the individuals on our candidate list. We urge all the appropriate authorities to swiftly address this matter."
"The ANC reiterates our full confidence in the IEC to deliver yet another free, fair election."
