ANC in Joburg to get ball rolling in mayoral contest
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The African National Congress (ANC) in Johannesburg says it will contest the position of mayor following Herman Mashaba’s resignation.
Mashaba tendered his resignation as a member of Democratic Alliance (DA) and the city’s first citizen on Monday morning.
His resignation will be effective from 27 November.
ANC Greater Johannesburg secretary Dada Morero says the party will go into a council meeting next month with an eye on contesting the position of mayor.

The party’s will meet on Tuesday to pave a way forward.
The ANC does not have an outright majority in council and will have to rely on potential coalition partners to wrestle the position away from the DA.
Morero says the parties they'll be engaging with are those which have a similar ideological stance as the ANC.
