ANC NEC lekgotla to focus on economy
Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
The ANC will focus on the state of the economy at its first National Executive Committee (NEC) lekgotla of the year.
Secretary General Gwede Mantashe briefly addressed media this afternoon, saying this is the last January lekgotla for the current NEC.
The next one will be after the national conference in December, where a new leadership will be elected.
Mantashe says the NEC has had its hands full with the effects of the global economic crisis and the resulting slow economic growth in South Africa.
"We are appealing to the committees to say to tell us everything that needs to be done. Policies are there, they have been refined and revisited, but we need to look at what we can do to grow the economy. We will be talking to mining, to agriculture, manufacturing and the fourth economic revolution which is innovation, being at the cutting edge of economic growth," says Mantashe.
Mantashe says they will also discuss land reform and distribution, education and higher education funding.
