ANC NEC ‘must remove Ace Magashule’
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
A group of African National Congress (ANC) members in the Free State has called on the party’s national executive committee (NEC) to remove Ace Magashule as secretary-general.
The call follows Magashule’s address to his supporters after appearing at the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Magashule is facing more than 20 charges, including fraud and money laundering, linked to the controversial multi-million rand asbestos audit project during his time as provincial premier.
The ANC in the Free State's Polediso Motsoeneng says activists and ordinary branch members of the party, who are opposed to corruption, are extremely disappointed in Magashule's behaviour.
"We are activists and ordinary branch members of the ANC in the Free State, who are against the graft and what has been happening both within the ANC and the provincial government. One of our outcries is how people, who were supposed to benefit out of the commitments of the ANC in as far as service delivery is concerned, have been dealt a blow because money has been put in the pockets of individual business people who are connected to Magashule.
“He has never been held accountable for all the corruption he did in the province. All the things that he has been mentioning during his address to his supporters did not benefit the people of Free State.”

He says an impression has been created that Magashule enjoys the support of ANC members in the Free State.
"We are not supporting the corrupt Ace Magashule. Any office-bearer who is facing criminal charges in the court of law should be suspended. (Unfortunately) the SG is responsible for suspending individuals who are facing criminal charges in a court of law.
“The national executive committee must suspend Ace Magashule as far as the constitution is concerned. Nobody has the right to suspend the ANC constitution, it must be implemented irrespective of who occupies a position in the organisation."
