ANC in North West responds to calls for Zuma to resign

The ANC Bokone Bophirima Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) said it met shortly after the judgement delivered by the Constitutional Court on the non-security upgrades at President Zuma's Nkandla home to discuss the implications of the judgement and the way forward.

The PEC said it resolved as follows:

The Constitutional Court Judgement reconfirms South Africa's commitment to constitutionalism and that ours is a country with a stable democracy.

We fully accept President Zuma's apology and undertaking to pay a portion of the money that was not supposed to be used at his Nkandla home. We call upon all ANC members and South Africans to exercise patience while the necessary processes continue to ensure that the Court judgement is implemented in its totality. 

We congratulate President Zuma for appointing the calibre of both the Judges and the Public Protector who put the country first in their rulings. This is an indication that the country can rely on the judgement of President Zuma because despite verbal attacks he suffered when he appointed the Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng in 2011, the President knew that he was appointing a credible Judge who would do his job without fear or favour. 

We have noticed the opportunistic stance that some within our party and opposition parties have taken to make it their daily job to call for the President's resignation. What baffles us is the emergence of this unholy alliance with opposition parties. The ANC in Bokone Bophirima rejects those calls with the contempt they deserve. The ANC as a party that respects its members has created space for branches to discuss the Constitutional Court judgement, but those who are in a rush to impose their self-serving agendas choose to disrespect that by trying to force their views down South Africans' throats on a daily basis. 

We in ANC Bokone Bophirima - like many South Africans - want to see this Nkandla matter laid to rest and we are looking forward to the implementation of the Public Protector's remedial actions, as confirmed by the Constitutional Court judgement. The President accepted the court's judgement and undertook to pay as soon as an amount has been determined through processes that even the Constitutional Court explained. 

Bokone Bophirima is fully behind the ANC National Working Committee's position that the President should be supported in his quest to comply with the Constitutional Court judgement. We appeal to branches of the ANC to use internal processes for any views they would like to share on the Constitutional Court judgement.

ANC members and South Africans at large must remember that those who are now at the forefront of praising the Constitutional Court judgement and using it to attack President Zuma, are the same people who accused the President of favouritism and poor decision-making when he appointed Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng. These are perpetual opportunists who change colours and allegiance based on what benefits their own political agendas.
