ANC not considering coalitions for 2024 elections: Mbalula

ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula has reiterated that the party is not considering forming government coalitions ahead of next year’s elections.

"We are not in talks with anyone about what can happen next year because we are not just convinced. We are very clear that we will still govern this country through the mandate of the people because the people are telling us so and the people are not saying to us that the ANC should actually be out of power," said Mbalula.

Earlier this month, the DA announced plans to team up with several other parties in the hopes of unseating the ANC.

They include the IFP, the Freedom Front Plus and ActionSA.

They are expected to hold discussions in August.

Speaking at the ANC Women’s League conference on Saturday, Mbalula said they are confident that the governing party will win the elections.

"It will be tested in terms of the election next year and we are restating and stating a clear position that we are working for ANC overwhelming majority."
