The party is preparing to host its national elective conference in December, where members will elect the leadership for the next five years.

The conference will take place from 16 to 21 December at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg.

The nomination process was due to start on Wednesday, but it has since been postponed to allow the leadership to audit its membership figures.

Briefing the media on Wednesday, the party's national spokesperson Pule Mabe said the national executive committee (NEC) will convene on Sunday to adopt the final membership audit.

This will pave a way for the start of the nomination processes in accordance with the newly approved ANC electoral guidelines.

The current ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to be vying for the second term.

The ANC in Limpopo has already endorsed Ramaphosa's re-election for the second term, while the party in North West said it's fully behind his leadership but the final decision rests with branches.

Mabe has also disputed the view that members get intimidated for nominating their own preferred candidates.

"Members of the ANC can't be intimidated, they can raise their hands, for the longest of times in our own provinces and in our regions some of us have adopted positions that differ from those of the regional or provincial leadership and here we are, still alive.

“So it's not true that you can be intimidated to that extent. At one point we even differed with the collective we elected even in national leadership, their rights to raise their hands is not going to be taken by anyone, they can go to their branches.”
