ANC rape-accused councillor abandons bail

The ANC councillor in Matlosana municipality accused of rape has abandoned his bail application.
Tebogo Sepale appeared in the Orkney Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
The 43-year-old politician from faces 11 provisional charges: two of statutory rape, three of violating a child without consent, one of manufacturing pornographic material, four of rape, and one of sexual intimidation.
North West NPA spokesperson, Henry Mamothame says the matter has been postponed for further investigations.
"He was due to register a formal bail application but opted to abandon it, following consultations with his attorney."
“The state is now awaiting the conclusion of investigations to possibly add more charges against the accused in preparation for trial. He will remain in police custody until his next court appearance," adds Mamothame.
The case has been postponed to 24 August 2023.
