The African National Congress (ANC) has sent its heartfelt condolences to families of those killed when a church collapsed on Good Friday.

The roof of the Pentecostal Church outside Empangeni collapsed during a service on Thursday night, leading to the deaths of 13 congregants.
A delegation from the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) government visited the families on Friday morning, while disaster management teams were deployed to the site of the roof collapse.

The ruling party's spokesperson, Dakota Legoete urged people to remain in strong despite the tragedy.
"We wish to send our message to all the churchgoers [and] to all our Christian community members that they must not despair in this moment of pain and sorrow, but soldier on and pray for our country and for those who have passed on," said Legoete.
According to the KZN Department of Cooperative Governance, a preliminary report found that the roof couldn’t withstand the hard and persistent rain.
The South African Council of Churches (SACC)’s Bishop Malusi Mpumlwana says not all churches have the means and the capacity to construct strong buildings.
