ANC shuts offices countrywide as staffers down tools

The African National Congress (ANC) has confirmed that its offices around the country will be closed on Thursday due to staff members embarking on a strike over unpaid salaries.
The payment of ANC staff salaries have once again been delayed as the governing party’s financial woes continue.
The party says it has been unable to pay staffers due to cash flow problems.
About two months ago, staff participated in a nationwide picket at the party’s various provincial offices to complain about unpaid salaries.
In a letter addressed to the staff, the ANC general manager Febe Potgieter confirmed that their outstanding July salaries would not be paid.
August salaries were due on Wednesday but once again, staff are yet to be paid.
ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe says management will continue to engage staff members on the issue.
“The ANC management has received notice from ANC staff that as from tomorrow (Thursday ), they will go on strike in support of grievances submitted on 15 June, including late payments of salaries.
“As a result of this wildcat strike, ANC offices throughout the country will be closed as of tomorrow. The ANC management will continue to engage with staff representatives on their grievances, with a view to find a solution, so that we can resume normal operations.”
