ANC wants murder-accused Mpumalanga treasurer Msibi to step aside

Luthuli House has written to newly elected Mpumalanga treasurer Mandla Msibi, calling on him to step aside a mere two days after his ascension to the top ranks.

Msibi was elected at the weekend during the ANC’s provincial conference, which also saw Mandla Ndlovu elected as provincial chairperson.
But Msibi’s election was marred by controversy.
He is currently embroiled in a criminal case where he faces two counts of murder and one of attempted murder linked to a fatal shooting in Mbombela in August last year.
Acting secretary-general Paul Mashatile wrote to murder-accused Msibi reminding him of the party’s step-aside resolution.
"We remind you that the national executive committee at its meeting on 26 to 29 March 2021 reaffirmed the resolution of the 54th National Conference that all members who have been charged with corruption or other serious crimes must step aside, failing which they should be suspended,” said Mashatile in the letter dated 3 April.
Msibi backed down from party activity last year, in the wake of his arrest but provincial structures nominated the 45-year-old amid the pending case.
Mashatile now wants Msibi to re-commit to his decision to voluntarily step aside, despite his recent election.
