ANC welcomes smooth payment of SASSA grants

The African National Congress
(ANC) has lauded the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) for the
"incident free" payment of social grants the past weekend.
The Constitutional Court recently extended a contract between the Department of Social Development and Cash PayMaster Services (CPS) last month, after a period of uncertainty.
"Meeting the deadline of 1st April 2017 has served to deal with the anxieties, restlessness and suspicions our people may have had on whether they would receive their grants on time. It further reaffirmed the ANC's commitment to providing, uninterrupted, a social security net to alleviate poverty amongst the vulnerable in our society," the party says in a statement.

"Social grants remain a crucial component of our abiding commitment to provide social security to the poorest of the poor in our society. The focus of the ANC-led government now, as directed by the National Executive Committee, must be on accelerating the insourcing of the payment of social grants as a critical service."
The Department of Social Development says they are keeping a close eye on payments: "The Minister of Social Development, Bathabile Dlamini, MECs, local government leaders and various SASSA officials were on the ground countrywide the past weekend, responding to queries and monitoring the payments."
Beneficiaries are encouraged to contact the SASSA call centre for any enquires on 0800 60 10 11.
