ANC will get more than 50% in polls, Ramaphosa predicts
ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa is confident he will remain in office after this year’s elections.
Ramaphosa hit the campaign trail in Mamelodi, east of Pretoria, on the final day of the IEC’s voter registration weekend on Sunday.
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) confirmed that more than a million new South Africans registered to vote for the 2024 national elections.
Over 23,000 polling stations were open on Saturday and Sunday to allow South African voters to register or check their status.
Ramaphosa said democracy depends on South Africans exercising their right to register and to vote.
“It’s important that more and more people register because the worth of our democracy is about the participation of everyone, and we have a very good democratic dispensation that needs to be supported by all South Africans.
“Yes, the ANC is going to get more than 50%. This province (Gauteng) is the home of the ANC. As I’ve been going around, people are saying we belong to the ANC and we support the ANC. So, we are confident. I can feel the pulse of our people, and I can smell the victory.
“So, it is going to happen, whether people like it or not. The ANC is going to come back with a bang.”
Ramaphosa is yet to announce the date for the national and provincial elections.
