Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane says the African National Congress’ (ANC) solution to the state’s empty coffers is to increase taxes.
The DA, The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) and the City of Tshwane held a joint press briefing on the recent the skyrocketing of fuel prices.
“Remember this year we had a 1% increase in VAT, so the ANC’s solution to all problems is to tax more, that is their solution we are saying no you must find other ways, that is not the solution,” says Maimane.
The price of petrol is already above the R16 a litre mark for the first time with another increase predicted for the month of August.
