Another 900 suspects arrested in Gauteng

Police have arrested close to 900 suspects and recovered 15 illegal firearms in Gauteng.

Gauteng police spokesperson, Mavela Masondo, says, officers are sending a strong warning to those who continue to undermine the rule of law.

 

He adds about 128 suspects were arrested in Ekurhuleni for various crimes including drugs peddling and rape.

 

"More than 110 were nabbed by the police in Tshwane for committing crimes such as business burglary, possession of illegal firearm, attempted murder, robbery, attempt to escape from lawful custody and driving while under the influence of alcohol," says Masondo.

 

In Johannesburg and the West Rand, more than 700 suspects were arrested.

 

Masondo says they were arrested for armed robbery, murder, assault, business robbery, housebreaking, driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of drugs, amongst other crimes.

 

He adds the suspects are expected to appear before different Magistrates' Courts in Gauteng soon.
