Appeals Court to rule on Pistorius sentence

The Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) will deliver its verdict in the appeal by the State to overturn the six-year prison sentence for Oscar Pistorius.

During arguments, a full bench of the court heard 3 weeks ago that Judge Masipa failed to put forward substantial and compelling reasons for deviating from the minimum sentence of 15 years.

Pistorius' advocate Barry Roux was grilled when the judges said they have still not been given an acceptable justification as to why the paralimpian shot four rounds into his bathroom door, killing Reeva Steenkamp, on the morning of 14 February 2013.

The parties returned to the Appeals Court, after the State said they found it shocking that Pistorius was only serving six years for killing his girlfriend.
