The High Court in Cape Town also handed his co-accused direct imprisonment sentences on Thursday.

Cape Town businessman, Saleem Dawjee, was sentenced to six years behind bars.

Former policemen Darius van der Ross and Colin Govender received two and four years in prison respectively.

They all pleaded guilty to corruption charges, in exchange for other charges being dropped.

Lamoer and the other high-ranking cops were standing trial for accepting payments from Dawjee in exchange for preferential treatment on a series of police matters.

The National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) Eric Ntabazalila says the accused have indicated to the judge that they'll be applying for bail today ahead of their appeal.
