ATM resubmits motion of no confidence against Ramaphosa
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
The African Transformation Movement (ATM) has resubmitted its motion of no confidence against President Cyril Ramaphosa to National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula.
The party was ordered by the Supreme Court of Appeal to resubmit the motion after it set aside the Speaker’s decision to reject a request by ATM to allow voting by secret ballot.
The motion was initially submitted in February 2020.
The party’s spokesperson Sibusiso Mcwabe says the motion is likely to be debated in the new year.
ATM believes the motion will succeed if done through a secret ballot.
It contends that ANC MPs will have an opportunity to vote without having to toe the ANC line, since their votes will be a secret.
