Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Authorities in Mahikeng in North West were battling a blaze at a local mini-market along Station Road on Friday morning.

The mini-market caught fire in the early hours of the morning, with fire services battling to contain it.
It has since spread to the local Protea Hotel.
“What is happening is that the shop that is mostly affected is Molopo mini-market,” says municipal spokesperson Johnny Nkoane.

“What we are seeing here is that Moloko mini-market has been partitioned into five shops. All those shops that are under Molopo mini-market are on fire currently.
“The fire is spreading into the Protea Hotel. Our fire department is monitoring the situation. They just gave us a report back that the fire is 90% extinguished, but we see the smoke coming from the Protea Hotel.”
The cause of the fire will be investigated.
