Enoch Rabotapi, head of teacher development at the department, says the setback from the coronavirus has had some pupils fall behind on schooling programme.
"The campaign is meant to provide some kind of final push for matric class of 2020.
"A lot of time has been lost of covid19, whilst many students in most of the affluent schools have the had the opportunity to have access to some form learning during this period, the majority of the learner, particularly in the rural and township schools, have not had the opportunity to be exposed to catch up programmes.”

He says although television will be the primary source, some learning will be available on the radio as well.
"We are actually targeting a multimedia platform. Television will be the key target but we will be integrating it with radio and we also want to bring community radio stations.
"We'll also be using online platforms like YouTube and others.”
Rabotapi says the programmes will also include psychosocial programmes for pupils dealing with anxiety and the fear they will fail due to time lost.
