Updated | By OFM
The trial of Bishop Stephen Zondo of Rivers of Living Waters Ministries is due to start in the High Court in Pretoria in August.
The 55-year-old Zondo briefly appeared in the Sebokeng Regional Court on charges of rape, contravening the Sexual Offences Act on Friday.
Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Gauteng Lumka Mahanjana says Zondo is accused of two counts of rape and another of sexual assault by female former church members.
"It is alleged that one of the victims that Bishop Zondo, who faces nine counts, allegedly repeatedly raped a family member.
"It is alleged that Bishop Zondo raped the victim in 1980 while she was eight or nine years old while other victims that were allegedly raped and/or sexually assaulted were members of his congregation."
His case has been transferred to the High Court in Pretoria for trial from 23 August to 17 September.
