Blue Bulls loose forward Khwezi Mafu is expected to return to court to apply for bail on the 8th of January.
Mafu was arrested on charges of sexual assault.
The Blue Bulls Company confirmed the arrest but says: "We are not in a position to make any comments at this time, and will release a further statement once the legal system has run its course".
The company referred all queries to Mafu's legal representative.
"He appeared yesterday in New Brighton court and it was postponed for the 8th for formal bail application," says Philip Masiza.
He adds Mafu is being held in Port Elisabeth at the North End correctional centre.
