Emergency services in Ekurhuleni confirmed the deaths of at least three plumbers who were trapped in a manhole in Benoni.

The workers were trapped on Monday evening, and their bodies were retrieved on Tuesday.
Ekurhuleni EMS spokesperson William Ntladi said the plumbers were unblocking the main sewerage system.
"On arrival we managed to identify the three bodies inside and working together with the SAPS water wing.
"They were overcome by methane gas from the pipeline system. The sewerage level was about five metres deep.
"Three bodies have been retrieved from a Swedish manhole system at the corner of Bradford and Liverpool Road, Benoni industrial site."
"The scene has been handed over to the police for further investigation," he added.
