The body of 10-year old Katlego Joja was found by police teams on Sunday afternoon.
Police have confirmed that Joja's body was found near the Moretele River after she went missing a week ago.
Police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maheso says community members alerted police to the body spotted in the water.
"Police reacted to information reported by members of the community by what they suspect to be the body of a person inside the river".
"The relevant units were summoned to the scene whereby they retrieved the body of the child and the family identified her", says Maheso.

An inquest docket has been opened to determine the cause of her death.
However police say they do not have any suspects in mind.
"At the present moment investigations are continuing and we don't have any suspects yet, we will reveal the outcome of the investigation after the post-mortem has been done," adds Maheso.
The South African Police Service have also arranged for the family to receive counselling.
"We have arranged for counselling for the family, it is very difficult. We were with the family yesterday, we believe they will be fine as time goes by," he adds.
