Bongo axed as ANC make changes to parliamentary caucus
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
Former state security minister Bongani Bongo has been removed as the chairperson of Parliament’s home affairs committee.
Bongo, who is facing corruption and fraud charges, will continue to serve on the home affairs committee as an ordinary MP.
ANC parliamentary caucus spokesperson Nomfanelo Kota says the changes were made to reflect the recent cabinet reshuffle by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
“Following an ordinary ANC Caucus meeting held on Thursday, these vacancies were filled and announced by the Chief Whip Pemmy Majodina to the ANC caucus.
“In its totality, the ANC parliamentary caucus list of chairpersons and whips is tilted towards gender parity especially with regards to women representation and reflects true commitment to the principle of non – sexism.
“President Ramaphosa had also separated the portfolio of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation into two separate entities, leading to the Caucus augmenting its own line functions.”
Bongo has been replaced by Mosa Chabane.
Meanwhile, Former North West premier Supra Mahumapelo has replaced Thandi Mahambehlala as chairperson of the international relations and co-operation committee.
Mahambehlala has been moved to Tourism.
Former #FeesMustFall leader Nompendulo Mkhatshwa has been appointed as chair of the higher education, science and innovation committee.
Incumbent Philly Mapulane was promoted to Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies during the recent reshuffle.
