Budget poor and service delivery-orientated, says Tshwane mayor

Tshwane Mayor Stevens Mokgalapa says the city’s 2019/2020 budget will be pro-poor and service delivery-driven.
Mokgalapa made the comments during a breakfast briefing on Friday, a day after he tabled the city’s budget in Tshwane House.
“It is a pro-poor budget, we’re looking at the social package. We are ensuring that the have-nots are also considered. Our poorest of the poor are also considered, looking at the economic climate that we are faced with.
“It is service delivery-orientated, because what I said was that of the DIP of the city in our public consultations say we need to spend money on this particular backlog region because there is a particular backlog.”

Tshwane is battling a R5 billion infrastructure backlog for services that include roads, storm water drains, electricity, clean drinking water and sanitation.
The delivery of water, electricity and sanitation will be prioritised.
“If you look at the breakdown in terms of capital expenditure in infrastructure it will beget mainly towards the backlog. In the main electricity water and sanitation. It is informed by the IDP,” Mokgalapa added.
