South African motorists can expect to cough up more for a litre of fuel thanks to an expected increase in the general fuel levy.

Consumers will in all likelihood also be asked to contribute more to the Road Accident Fund.
This is according to predictions by PWC ahead of the tabling of the budget next week by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana.
“So what we expect is that we will see inflationary increases in the general fuel levy and at least inflationary increases in the RAF levy,” said PwC South Africa Tax Policy Leader Kyle Mandy.
“Remember the RAF is highly insolvent and you will recall in previous years you have seen above inflationary increases to fund the RAF. So we do expect that this trend will happen again this year.”
Godongwana is expected to deliver his budget speech next week Wednesday in Cape Town.
Power utility Eskom, the funding of the social distress relief grant and government’s wage bill are expected to take centre stage.
