Bulgarian couple arrested in Johannesburg for ATM card fraud

A Bulgarian couple have been arrested in Sandton in Johannesburg after they were found withdrawing money from an ATM using cloned bank cards.
The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’s (Hawks) cybercrime unit, in conjunction with Crime Intelligence, made the arrests on Tuesday.
Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Robert Netshiunda said: “The couple was put under surveillance for a week and during a search at their residence the Hawks found high tech ATM skimming devices, 800 cloned cards, 1,500 bank cards which were waiting to be cloned, R20,000 cash as well as R66,000 in foreign currency.”
The suspects are due to appear before the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Court. They have been charged with unauthorised access to data, possession of a device that is designed to overcome security, as well as fraud.
