Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
Cabinet has approved a new service delivery model which will focus on districts.
Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mthembu made the announcement at a media briefing on Thursday.
"The model, which currently focuses on 44 districts and eight metros, will ensure coherence and integration in planning, budgeting and implementing of service delivery projects in all districts by all three spheres of government- national, provincial and local."
He said the new model will ensure that the national government is able to keep provincial and local governments accountable for lack of service delivery.
"President Cyril Ramaphosa will be the champion of the model, supported by Deputy President David Mabuza and the entire executive. Provincial premiers and their executive, local and district mayors together with their exco will be part of the implementation of the model.”
Mthembu said Ramaphosa will start visiting the different districts in September to begin the work.
