Cable thief burnt to death in Chloorkop

A man has been burnt to death while attempting to steal a cable at an Eskom substation at Chloorkop near Kempton Park.

Preliminary reports indicate that a breaker exploded while the man was attempting to steal the cable.
Spokesperson for Eskom in Gauteng Reneilwe Semenya says the man died on Sunday.
“An explosion occurred and upon investigation, security found the man lying on the ground inside the high voltage yard.

“The deceased sustained serious burn injuries after cutting a protection cable. Emergency services were called to attend to the injured suspect, however he unfortunately succumbed to the injuries sustained on the way to the hospital.”
Both Eskom and the police are investigating the incident.
