His memorial service was held at the AlexSanKopano Community hall in Alexandra on Friday.

The ANC party also used the event to call for unity in Johannesburg ahead of the regional conference.

The conference was postponed to 27 May following disputes at some branches.

Party spokesperson Sasabona Manganye called for unity in honour of Moerane.

"The best present we can do for Mpho Moerane is to unite the ANC in Johannesburg, and uniting the party doesn't only mean we must negotiate who must lead than the other, but it means it means even if we allow the democratic process to take place but still remain brothers and sisters and still remain the family of the ANC."

ANC regional secretary Dada Morero apologised to Moerane for allowing politics to come between them.

"The pain is too deep, and we are all here to carry you home. I am sorry I should have been there for you as a friend, I am sorry we allowed politics to put our friendship on ice. Our friendship was indeed unique."

Moerane succumbed to his injuries he sustained in a car crash earlier this month in Sandton.

His funeral service will take place on Sunday at Kwa Bhekilanga Sports ground in Alexandra on Sunday.
