Cannabis ‘could benefit the poor’
Updated | By Algoa FM
Cannabis practitioner Dr Marishian Scutter says the poor will now be able to take advantage of legalised cannabis.
A two-day cannabis stakeholder engagement concluded at the East London International Convention Centre on Friday afternoon.
Scutter believes the provincial government is serious about its responsibility to its people when it comes to furthering the cannabis industry.
"We're having a look at the co-op model which is wonderful which means that the guys who want to get the licences can still do the licences. The rich can still become richer but our poor communities can be involved and also start growing.”
On Thursday Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane said the country was not doing justice to itself and its citizens through the red tape that was frustrating economic development.
He said concerning cannabis production, Eastern Cape communal farmers are eager to participate but licensing conditions were frustrating them.
