Cape Town school drug tests reveal shocking results

A shockingly high percentage of the learners tested for drug use in the Western Cape - have tested positive.

It led a number of drug tests at various schools during the first half of this year.
The department says these tests were only conducted on learners who had already been suspected of substance abuse.

The MEC for education Debbie Schafer says the department has a number of anti-drug programmes in place.
"The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) does all that it can by conducting random search and seizure operations, drug testing, awareness campaigns, and substance abuse programmes," Schafer says.
Of the 360 primary school learners from 36 schools tested for drugs - 229 tested positive.
While of the 605 high school pupils - 415 had been found to be taking drugs.
