Case against students in rifle case struck off court roll

The case against two students allegedly found in possession of a high-calibre firearm has been struck off the court roll.
The pair were expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
The suspects were arrested in Auckland Park on Wednesday during the second week of protests by students against historical debt and financial exclusion.

Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Gauteng Phindi Mjonondwane says the state has given police instruction to further investigate the matter.
"Once they concluded such investigation they can bring back the docket to the NPA, so that the NPA can decide whether or not the students should face prosecution.”
