While the heavy downpour has been welcomed, authorities have warned motorists that it could cause havoc on Gauteng roads this morning. Tshwane EMS' Johan Pieterse has warned that low water bridges could possibly flood while residents who live in low lying areas should take care.

Tshwane EMS' Johan Pieterse has warned that low water bridges could possibly flood while residents who live in low lying areas should take care.
The South African Weather Service has issued a warning of severe thunderstorms across the Gauteng Province as well as the North West and the Free State.
"Severe thunderstorms are expected in places over the southern parts of Gauteng, south-eastern parts of North West and central and eastern parts of the Free State," the weather service warned.

Meanwhile Pieterse says pedestrians and motorists should avoid crossing low water bridges in especially the Centurion area.
He also urged anyone to report any incidents so that EMS personnel can attend to it.

"Keep to the following distance and beware of water on the roads. Traffic lights might also be out due to the rain so add some extra traveling time to your journey," Pieterse said.
