Cele addresses hijacked buildings, police corruption in Yeoville
Updated | By Valerie Robinson
Police minister Bheki Cele says efforts to crack down on criminal activity in hijacked buildings in downtown Johannesburg will be intensified.

The minister engaged the community of Yeoville during a crime imbizo on Saturday where residents were able to voice their grievances, as well as to address crime and tensions between locals and foreign nationals in the area.
Cele said he was also aware of the complaints, from residents, of corrupt police but said that the fight against crime is a collective initiative.
"You have come with the police that you think they are criminals, fine. You have come with those that you think they are murderers, fine... Just bring them to me."
"There is no country that will be ruled by criminals or will be co-governed with criminals," he said.
On Tuesday more than 100 people were taken in for questioning at Hillbrow Police Station when officers, along with their metro police counterparts, raided four hijacked buildings.
