Cele: Police not to blame for Global Citizen chaos
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
Police Minister Bheki Cele says
the lack of security outside the FNB Stadium in Soweto on Sunday was not the
police’s responsibility.
Cele was addressing the media in Port Elizabeth on Monday morning on the scourge of gang violence in the city's northern areas.
Social media has been awash with reports of concert-goers being robbed and attacked outside the stadium after the conclusion of the concert, with many laying the blame at the door of poor police and metro police visibility.
Police have refuted the claims, saying there was a strong presence at the concert, which was attended by some 70 000 people.

Cele says police cannot be held liable for incidents that occurred after the concert on Sunday.
"That should be asked from the organisers, but if you think any form crime happened please come and open the case with the South African Police. We will investigate, 74-hour turnaround we'll find those guys," Cele says.
Cele says there has only been one case reported and the suspects have since been arrested.
