Cele: Taverns, shebeens will lose licenses for violating regulations
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
Police Minister Bheki Cele has warned tavern, shebeen, and restaurant owners who continue to violate lockdown regulations.
He said some outlets are violating regulations by locking up their establishments as per the curfew, but allowing patrons to remain inside to continue consuming alcohol.
Cele was briefed the media in Pretoria on Tuesday.
"I want to remind all business owners who insist on flouting the rules, the long arm of the law will catch up with you and you will lose your operating license.
"We report to the liquor board that issue licenses and it is up to them to take the law further, whether shut down your business or not and we on our side open a criminal record."

Cele warned that the police will be out in full force to ensure that all businesses comply with the level 1 curfew.
The level 1 curfew runs from midnight to 4 am.
More than 300 000 people have been arrested since the beginning of the lockdown in March for various offences linked to the violation of lockdown regulations.
Most of the arrests were made in the Western Cape with over 72 000 charges laid, while 59 000 were nabbed in Gauteng.
