Horner was stabbed before he was found hanging from a pole at the start of October.

Joined by other ministers in the security cluster, Cele said they weren’t just there as government officials but also as parents.

“The issue is not just that we are working for the government, but we are also human beings, we are also parents. We raised the issue that we have never lost any child so we can’t claim to be understanding the pain as they do,” Cele said on Tuesday.

Cele told the family and the community that he would look in their concerns about police in the province.

“These are the matters that we’ll have to pick up, especially and specifically on the police side so we have agreed that we will come back soon to work on those matters, to work on the relationships that the community has raised.”

Malema threatens civil arrests in Senekal

Malema says the party will apply pressure on law enforcement to effect more arrests of those responsible for the chaos that erupted at the Senekal Magistrate's Court last week. Tensions ran high in the small Free State town when a large crowd gathered outside during the court for the appearance of two suspects linked to the murder of young farmer Brendin Horner.

Two suspects are set to appear in court on Friday.

“We know that two people have been arrested but we know that it is no comfort to the mother that has lost a young man of 21 years. It will always help if we worked harder on prevention rather than reaction because even if those guys got a life sentence, that young man can’t come back,” Cele added.

The murder garnered public outcry from the farming community and ignited racial tensions across the country.

Lobby group AfriForum believe there’s a witch hunt against Afrikaners.

Meanwhile the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) vowed to turn up in Senekal on Friday to effect civil arrests of those responsible for the chaos that erupted outside the Senekal Magistrate’s Court last week when the 2 suspects in Horner’s murder appeared before the court.
