Centurion robbery suspect killed in shootout

A suspected robber was killed in a shootout with police in Centurion on Sunday.
An unknown number of suspects attempted to rob a local chesa nyama on Old Johannesburg Road.
Gauteng police spokesperson Kay Makhubela says the group of men managed to escape leaving one suspect behind.
"The suspects attempted to rob the chesa nyama and when they saw the police they drove off and left one of their friends and then the friend hijacked another car," says Makhubela.
After the alarm was raised, police rushed to the scene where a shootout ensued.
"The police were notified and spotted the vehicle. They gave chase to the vehicle."

The incident occurred on Wednesday. A police officer was shot and injured after responding to a call of an ongoing conflict between the taxi and bus industry in the area. Police say that a shootout ensued between police officials and the taxi drivers, which left three people dead.
The suspect opened fire on the police vehicle.
"Police fired back where they shot one suspect," Makhubela adds.
The man was declared dead on the scene.
Nothing was taken from the local eatery but police are investigating a case of attempted murder.
