Updated | By Slindelo Masikane
The state on Monday announced that it has withdrawn charges against businessman Nico Henning who was accused of masterminding the murder of his wife Channelle Henning in 2011.
Chanelle was shot and killed in her car moments after dropping her son at a crèche in Faerie Glen, Pretoria.
The was trial set to start in the North Gauteng High Court today, but state prosecutor Gerrie Nel said they were not ready to proceed with the matter.
Henning's senior council, Piet Van Wyk said he hoped the families could now move on with their lives.
The National Prosecuting Authority's Luvuyo Mfaku said it had no choice but to withdraw the charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
"The state was not in a position to proceed with the matter and there was no other option other than to withdraw the matter. We cannot elaborate on the reasons. They're technical in nature," Mfaku said.
